A lot of people describe the wedding cake consultation as the best part of their wedding planning – after months (sometimes years) of planning the stressful stuff, the bride and groom finally get to sit down and EAT CAKE!
We LOVE wedding cake consultations, we love to meet our couples and get to know them, their love story, and ultimately work together with them to create something magical for their special day. We love that we have the ability to turn a simple cake into something so personal, symbolic and beautiful for our clients.
We often get asked questions about our wedding cake consultations: how does it work, what do you need from me, can I bring my mum… so we thought it would be a good idea to walk you through our consultation process, as well as give you some tips on how you can prepare for your consultation!
Our consultations begin with an informal chat about you and your ideas for your wedding – the invitations, the flowers, the colour scheme, the dress.. if we can envision your wedding, it will be easier for us to design the perfect cake that reflects your style.
It seems all brides become hooked on Pinterest while planning their big day… so show us your Pinterest board! (If you want to follow us on Pinterest and see our creations, you can do so here). Pinterest is amazing for wedding cake inspiration, and we often have brides coming in with a cake in mind they found on Pinterest. Make sure to bring a selection of cakes that have grabbed your attention, and we can discuss which features you liked about each one. You can also look at our gallery to see our other client’s wedding cakes, or look on our Facebook page. If you know exactly what you want, and it’s slightly out of the box – let us know! Next up is the fun bit: Tasting the cakes! Some couples already know exactly what flavours they want for their cake, others have no idea! Don’t worry, we won’t hold out on the tastings! At Sweet Bites, we pride ourselves on offering every flavour known to man, and then some!

After the tasting, we’ll sketch up your cake together, guided by your inspiration pictures and wedding vision. It really helps to sketch up different ideas to sense what the cake will look like – and then we can alter the various aspects from there. By the end, we will have finalized the design entirely – right down to the finer details! Everything you have envisioned will be all drawn out in the sketch, which serves as a blueprint when the time comes to create your wedding cake. Some couples will choose their cake flavours during the consultation, however no worries if you can’t decide, or want to bring home some samples – we offer take-home sample boxes for $5.00 (5 samples). Our first wedding cake consultation together is complimentary, however, any additional consults will be $40.00.

How far in advance should we book our consultation before the wedding?
We recommend 6-8 months in advance to ensure everything runs smoothly.
What if I have any dietary requirements?
We can cater for most dietary requirements – all we ask is that you let us know beforehand! We can do egg and dairy free cakes, as well as gluten free (gluten free at an additional charge).
Can I bring my mum?
Of course! She is more than welcome! You can bring one mum from each family if you’d like! Due to space restrictions, the maximum we can host is 4 people per consultation, however, if you would like more, please let us know.
What if I have absolutely no idea what I want for my wedding cake?
Relax, you are in good hands! We do this every single day, and have been doing so for a long time. We have hundreds of cake ideas up our sleeves.
